Abstract

Adipose tissue transplantation has been widely used for several decades. However, one of the unsolved problems is still unpredictable resorption of adipose tissue after transplantation. Technique and conditions of lipoaspiration procedure are not the only factors affecting the results of adipose tissue engraftment following autologous transplantation. Other predictors are age, gender, body mass index, menopausal status, estrogen level, choice of donor area for transplantation, chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, uptake of cytostatics, etc. To date, there are various contradictory data indicating possible influence of individual patient factors on proliferative activity, viability of adipocytes and adipose derived stem cells during liposuction for subsequent autotransplantation of adipose tissue. The purpose of this article is critical evaluation of these data.
