Artistic perception of the face plane from the Renaissance to the present day has been analyzed. The authors emphasize the need for plastic surgeon to percept not only age-related face volume changes, but also their shadows. In authors’ opinion, correction of age-related ptosis and deformations in accordance with their planes may be advisable to preserve natural facial expression.
