Abstract

Silicone lymphadenopathy is a rare pathology. It is a granulomatous inflammation in lymph nodes associated with silicone implants. The mechanism of this process is unclear. It is believed that silicone particles get into the lymph nodes through transportation by macrophages with subsequent granulomatous inflammation. The authors report bilateral silicone lymphadenopathy in axillary, subclavian, supraclavicular and parasternal lymph nodes associated with breast implant rupture. Silicone lymphadenopathy should be considered in differential diagnosis when enlarged lymph nodes are found in patients with previous placement of silicone implant.
