Abstract

Objective. To describe surgical treatment of unilateral giant breast fibroadenoma in an adolescent girl.

Material and methods. The parents of a 12-year-old girl appealed to the Department of Reconstructive Surgery due to rapidly growing neoplasm in the left mammary gland. Unilateral giant juvenile breast fibroadenoma is quite rare. Surgeons were faced with the objective of not only tumor resection, but also maintain symmetry of mammary glands. Precise resection through subareolar access was performed.

Results. There were symmetric mammary glands in delayed postoperative period. No recurrence was observed throughout a year.

Conclusion. Giant juvenile fibroadenoma of the breast is an extremely rare tumor with potential risk of malignant transformation. Subareolar access is the method of choice for performing radical surgery.
