Abstract

Objective. To analyze the capabilities of high-frequency ultrasound examination of epidermal layer of skin.

Material and methods. We analyzed ultrasound data on epidermal layer of skin in 36 patients using ultrasound transducers of various manufacturers with maximum scanning frequency of 18.0-24.0 MHz: LA435 (Esaote), SL3116 (Esaote), i18LX5 (Canon), i24LX8 (Canon).

Results. Considering own data, we assessed the accuracy of high-frequency ultrasound examination for assessment of thickness of epidermal layer of facial skin.

Conclusion. High-frequency ultrasonic transducers with maximum frequency of 18.0-24.0 MHz do not allow determining the true thickness of epidermis. However, this method can be used for comparative assessment.
