Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To improve the treatment of paresis and paralysis of mimic muscles using facial nerve reinnervation by masticatory branch of trigeminal nerve.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study group included 8 patients (2 men and 6 women) aged 25-68 years. All ones underwent facial nerve reinnervation by masticatory branch of trigeminal nerve.

RESULTS

All patients noted sufficient restoration of mimic muscle function that was also confirmed by EMG data.

CONCLUSION

Strength of masticatory muscles determines the effectiveness of facial nerve reinnervation by masticatory branch of trigeminal nerve. Occlusion therapy can solve the problem of insufficient strength of masticatory muscles and increase the effectiveness of surgical treatment and rehabilitation.
