Abstract

Objective. To evaluate various methods of lipofilling for false varus deformity of the lower legs.

Material and methods. We analyzed the results of lipofilling for varus deformity of the lower legs in 131 patients between 2010 and 2022. Of these, 128 (98%) patients underwent bilateral lipofilling, 3 (2%) patients — unilateral procedure. The volume of injected adipose tissue was 191±55 ml in each lower leg (116±33 ml intramuscularly and 91±25 ml subcutaneously). Adipose tissue was distributed intramuscularly/subcutaneously with the ratio of 57%/43%. One patient underwent repeated lipofilling after a year. The follow-up period varied from 8 months to 12 years.

Results. Analysis of normalized preoperative and postoperative images revealed stable augmentation and improvement of contours of the lower legs after 4 months. Injection of a larger volume of adipose tissue provided earlier augmentation and improvement of contours (after 3 months).

Conclusion. Lipofilling with correct distribution of adipose tissue is effective for false varus deformity of the lower legs.
