Abstract

Objective. To identify the current issues and shortcomings of liposuction, various technologies for improving the effectiveness and safety of this intervention.

Material and methods. The authors used an original questionnaire including general questions and questions devoted to the nuances of body liposuction and lipofilling of the gluteal area. Survey was conducted among 118 plastic surgeons.

Results. According to survey data, 67% of respondents have more than 5-year experience in liposuction and lipofilling. Particular attention is paid to preparing a patient for surgery including preoperative assessment of phenotype and choice of optimal techniques. Noteworthy is insufficient work with high-risk patients. Indeed, 51.3% of specialists do not consider smoking of patients, 41% of plastic surgeons are ready to take a patient with anemia for liposuction, 42% of respondents ignore thromboembolic risks and do not use the Caprini scale. In general, core body temperature changes are underestimated when choosing the optimal technique. Thus, 60% of respondents do not see any threat in any hypothermia.

Conclusion. Survey revealed the key parameters of effectiveness and safety of liposuction. These ones include hypothermia, body surface area scheduled for simultaneous correction, liposuction volume as a percentage of body weight, risk of acute blood loss and smoking. This clearly indicates advisability of additional study and elaboration of these issues.
