Abstract

A retrospective and prospective analysis included 1.400 patients within 3-120 months after breast implantation. We estimated the major criteria of ASIA syndrome (autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome caused by adjuvants) taking into account external factors, typical clinical manifestations, the fact of elimination of the damaging factor and typical histological picture. Deterioration of physical and emotional state interfering with normal work was observed in 9% of cases, feeling of chronic fatigue — 15% of cases, myalgia and arthralgia — 6.25%, complicated medical history due to autoimmune diseases — in 5.6% of cases. Assessment of certain antinuclear antibodies to histones and nucleosomes by immunofluorescence reaction and immunoblotting for confirmation of the minor criteria of ASIA syndrome found no significant differences compared to patients after breast implantation not meeting the major criteria of ASIA syndrome. Therefore, such an assessment requires further research. In these cases, complete blood count regarding leukocytosis and blast cells may be valuable.
