Abstract

The authors discuss modern approaches and techniques of umbilicoplasty. Factors influencing successful umbilical repositioning and perioperative complications are considered. Recent studies and techniques including crescent-shaped neo-umbilicoplasty, non-inverted U-shaped incision for neo-umbilical flap, X-shaped incision for umbilicoplasty with lipoabdominoplasty and TULUA with inverted U-shaped incision are estimated. T-shaped and vertical umbilical techniques are followed by better aesthetic outcomes. Additionally, the authors emphasize the potential of umbilicoplasty to enhance aesthetic outcomes while preserving functionality. Differences of various methods based on skin incision including vertical, oval, triangular, rectangular, V-shaped and Y-shaped ones are examined. The review highlights significant advancements in surgical methods, such as innovative sutures, tissue flap harvesting and liposuction-based procedures. The advantages of scarless technique over circular umbilical repair are also considered. Finally, this manuscript underscores the importance of factors influencing successful umbilical transposition and calls for further research to improve the outcomes after umbilicoplasty.
