Abstract

Steatocystoma as a rare skin disease was originally recognized as a sebaceous gland cyst or retention cyst. However, this is a hamartomatous malformation of sebaceous gland wall at its confluence with hair follicle and characterized by numerous dermal cysts containing sebaceous glands. This congenital disease is followed by significant psycho-emotional stress and reduces the quality of life. Surgical treatment was performed in a 34-year-old patient with giant form of multiple steatocystoma whose elements were localized on the skin of the neck. Histological examination confirmed multiple steatocystoma. No recurrence was detected after treatment. We observed a stable clinical outcome. Complex and en bloc surgical excision of giant foci of multiple steatocystoma through a single access is a reproducible, effective and safe method for these patients.
